SECTION 06300 – PRESERVATIVE TREATED LUMBER
PART 1 GENERAL
1.01
WORK INCLUDED:
A.
To furnish labor, materials, and equipment necessary
to complete preservative treatment to new woodwork as herein specified.
B.
This section includes, but is not limited to, preservation
and certification for:
Termites and Rot
1.02 SUBMITTALS:
A.
CERTIFICATION: A Certificate of Treatment shall be issued
to the owner showing compliance with these specifications. The certificate
for Wood Preservation shall denote the treating process utilized and applicable Standards.
B.
MARKINGS: Those materials to be exposed to view such as clears, rough-Sawn,
glu-laminated beams, etc. will not be stamped, but will receive a Certificate
of Treatment.
1.03 QUALITY CONTROL AGENCIES AND MARKS:
A. Lumber and plywood pressure treated with TRIB
II ® (chlorpyrifos and IPBC) shall bear the mark of the manufacturer.
1.04 PRODUCT HANDLING, DELIVERY, AND STORAGE:
A. Comply with AWPA Standard M4-01 or latest revision. Store treated products
off ground. Protect from moisture by canvas or plastic covers but
provide ventilation.
PART 2 – PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS AND METHODS
A. Oil-borne preservatives shall be TRIB II ® (Chlorpyrifos and IPBC). The solvent used in formulating the preservative solution
shall meet the requirement of AWPA standard P9-01 or latest revision.
B. Finished products shall be clean and free of residue.
The treating process shall not discolor the wood unfavorably, nor interfere with subsequent
painting, staining
or other finishes.
Note: Material must be thoroughly dry
before painting.
PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.01 PREPARATION
A. Each piece of lumber or plywood shall be dried prior
to treatment and shall comply with applicable standards. Material to be treated with
an oil-borne solution shall be air dried or kiln dried to a moisture content
of 19% or less.
B. Finished lumber shall be milled to finished size and shape prior to
treating. Assemble after treating. Plywood may be treated in regular size panels. Framing
lumber for rough carpentry does not require milling to size prior to treatment.
C. Glu-laminated beams shall be pressure treated with
oil-borne preservatives.
D. All lumber and plywood shall be treated unless specified
otherwise.
3.02 WOOD PRESERVATION
A. OIL-BORNE PRESERVATIVES
Hardwood and exposed lumber 2” nominal thickness and over will be
unpainted or receive a clear finish shall be unincised and pressure
treated with TRIB II ® (Chlorpyrifos and IPBC).
Structural or concealed lumber shall be treated with Hi-Bor treatment as approved
by the building official.
Doors shall be treated after manufacture. (Solid wood core
doors only.)
3.03 INSTALLATION
A. When necessary to cut TRIB II ® (Chlorpyrifos and IPBC)
lumber in the field, the cut end shall be brush coated with an approved
termiticide solution.
B. Thoroughly treat all cuts, holes, notches, splits, etc.
made during construction in compliance with AWPA standard M4-01 or latest revision.
3.04 CLEAN UP
A. Upon completion of entire work or when instructed by
proper authority, all rubbish, waste, debris and unused material shall be removed from
the premises.
B. Dispose of treated wood in a sanitary landfill or other
authorized disposal Area.
DO NOT BURN TREATED WOOD. DO NOT BURY WOOD OF
ANY
TYPE ON THE JOBSITE.
